Before and After

I love finding treasures and giving them new life. The little trunk was stripped of it's wallpaper boarder and given a paint touch up. The wooden books were purchased and given a new paint color. My new favorite color, Mississippi Mud on the bottom book, Pueblo for the middle book and Turner's Yellow for the top book. Once the books were painted they were distressed and stained with walnut stain.

Pitcher Collection

My collection started with the brown crock pitchers on the bottom shelf. I especially like the details that these pitchers display. The other pitchers were found at thrift stores. I really didn't intend to start this collection, but I guess when you find items that you love it's hard to let them go. What items do you collect?

She Bids, She WINS!!

Look at the awesome cabinet that I won from a consignment sale. I placed my bid thinking that I wouldn't win, but to my surprise I was the winner of this great cabinet. I love all the details that this cabinet has. It is a great addition to my primitive style/collection!!

Pewter Collection

Todays mission was to add to my pewter collection. I have picked up some great pewter items at tag sales, so I started my hunt at a tag sale. The first tag sale was a success. There I picked up the 2 mugs w/handles. Goodwill was on the list of stops, and there I picked up the 2 goblets and candlestick. The very best finds of the hunt were the items that I picked up at The Salvation Army. I wasn't even going to stop, but I'm extremely glad that I did. The pitcher and creamer were picked up for $1.99 each. That's right, I said it $1.99 EACH!! I walked out of the store with the BIGGEST smile on my face. These items will be a great addition to my collection!!

Successful Saturday

Today was another successful day of thrifting. I found some great items and didn't really spend that much money. I love the floor lamp, however I feel a up-style coming in the near future. (Pictures to come later.) I also love the old metal serving tray. I snatched this item up for $2.98. It needs some love, so I'll post pictures after it's cleaning. The tray measures 24 inches X 16 1/2 inches. The basket stand with small baskets also brought a huge smile to my face. This item was a nice find at $5.99. I also love the old wire heart bird cage. I've been eyeing this item but didn't really want to pay the full price. Today the item was half price and mine for the taken. Another day in the books for this happy thriftier.

Firkin Love

After being captured inside yesterday (thanks to a snow storm), a much needed treasure hunt was on the agenda today. The best and most favorite find was the small firkin. The firkin was priced at $9.00 with a 15% coupon bring it down to $7.65. However, it had me at $9!! It measures 4 3/4 inches tall. It will be a great addition to my firkin collection!!

Chimney Cabinet

Here are some pictures from the cabinet that my brother made me for my birthday. I especially love how he did the shelving for the cabinet (see above pictures). He did such a great job and I couldn't be more happy with it!! I stained the inside of the cabinet and painted the outside with Rookwood Red. I distress some areas of the cabinet and then went over the areas with special walnut stain. I absolutely love my primitive cabinet!!

Cutting/Bread board

I seem to be in this old cutting/bread board phase. Since I from Nebraska, how could I not pick up this cutting/bread board!?!? And at only $2, I think it was meant to be!! Go Huskers!!

Project turned Treasure

I found this wooden heart while hunting for treasures one day. The price was right ($1)and I knew exactly what I was going to do with it. I love old cutting/bread boards that have character and this heart was going to resemble just that. This heart was unfinished when I picked it up. I stained it with a golden oak color and let it dry for a few days. Once the heart was dry, I painted the edges with a color called Rookwood Red (which is my new favorite color). I then distressed the edges and re-stained the sanded edges to give it the aged look. Couple coats of poly to finish the heart, and it's ready to find a home in my Valentine's display.

Lovely little treasure

I loved this when I saw it in the bag, but loved it even more when I realized all of the piece that came with it. This is definitely one of my best finds at only $3.99. I'm not sure of its age, but still love it anyways!!
